An Example
This is an example of a sermon outline laid out on a “half-sheet” for a sermon on Eph. 4:1-6 for our series, The Communion of Saints.
This is a simple outline with only two parts that reflect the sermon summary. The summary is “The kindness of our communion is grounded in out commonality in Christ.” Unpacking that principle in Eph. 4:1-6 fell neatly into two halves: The Kindness of Our Communion and Our Commonality in Christ.
You can listen to the sermon here to see how the outline is reflected in what is actually said.
People ask what the different colors of highlighting mean in my notes. I always use the same colors for specific content to make it easy to find my place when returning to my notes after engaging directly with the congregation.
Blue: Sermon Summary
Orange: Intro, major points, conclusion
Underlined: Subpoints
Yellow: Details/sub-subpoints
Pink: Special emphasis or precise wording.
Green: Scripture references, confessional references
